Summary/Objective This key role leads, manages and organizes the Design & Development staff & related processes within the Product Development Team to support Ruffwear’s goal of building innovative dog gear to unleash possibility and inspire connections for outdoor adventurers and their human companions. Position Requirements This position works collaboratively with the entire Product Development Team both in the US and Vietnam, the R&D Director/Founder, the Director of Product Design and Development, Marketing, Sales, and Supply Chain to deliver market-leading in-line products from concept to commercialization hand-off and that meet the brand's long-range intentions, calendars, design ethos, and seasonal GTM goals. Position Responsibilities Recruits, hires, manages, and mentors Design & Development staff. Ensures Design & Development Team meets seasonal dates and goals for samples & work products to support in-line product creation and seasonal GTM. Partners with the Director of Design & Development on staffing plans to build out the Design and Development team, skills, and capabilities. Leads the creation, management, and socialization of design standards and design ethos for the brand. Works collaboratively with the Design & Development Team to ensure design language across all product projects is connected and supports overall design ethos and design standards. Identifies, proposes and implements upgrades to process and best practices for the Design and Development Team. Partners with the Product Line Management Team on meeting GTM dates, deliverables, and decisions to support seasonal GTM goals & intentions. Partners with the Product Innovation Team to support Ruffwear’s R&D goals, calendar, and long-range R&D roadmap. Partners with the Product Operations Team to streamline dates and deliverables to reduce noise for the Design & Development Team and support overall goals for Product Development and Ruffwear. Leads in-line materials development & management to meet function, performance, calendar, quality, sustainability, Supply Chain, and design ethos goals. Go-to-Market Supports, as needed, product line management and marketing on copy and positioning in the briefs and that final samples are successfully transferred into consumer-facing touchpoints. Support successful execution of key launch moments in the GTM calendar. Support, as needed, go-to-market asset creation (video, print, social). Supervisory Responsibility Product Designer and Developers Associate Product Developer Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office setting (Ruffwear office or home office as necessary). Travel International (at least 2x/year) and domestic travel will be required. Some extended International travel may be required (three weeks or longer). Required Education and Experience 3+ years of experience in product design and development. A combination of years of experience and education may be taken into consideration. Full comprehension of computer-aided 2D design software (Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop). Working knowledge of 3D CAD software. Experience in following up on projects to ensure designs are executed correctly. Ability to work well remotely and independently with overseas factories. Ability to work outside the job description and assist other departments with projects. High degree of curiosity and problem-solving skills. Passion for dogs and first-hand understanding of the interactive bond between canines and humans. Preferred Education and Experience 3+ years of experience in managing design and development staff. 5+ years of experience in product design and development. Experience in product design for the outdoor, apparel, or pet industries (emphasis on soft goods and accessories).
