We believe this is important as in the UK HGVs are responsible for 16% of the greenhouse gas emissions from vehicles but for only 5% of the miles traveled. Plus, while electric vehicle sales for passenger vehicles are on the rise the same can't be said for long haul HGVs. There are such few deployments of battery-electric trucks largely due to their limited range. That is why we are focused on increasing the efficiency of the diesel trucks of today and increasing the range of the zero-emission trucks of the future is important. Our product Hypermile Co-Pilot is an retrofittable advanced driver assistance system for commercial vehicles focused on controlling the speed and steering the truck efficiently. We have trained the AI algorithms to learn the best techniques for saving fuel: anticipating how traffic flow will change, optimising speed based on the road gradient and maximizing vehicle coasting. As a result we can reduce diesel consumption by 11% and extend the range of battery-electric vehicles by 15%. The company was founded in May 2020 and raised a $1.5M pre-seed round in May 2021 from Y Combinator, Greg Brockman, Jude Gomilla, Metaplanet and others. We’ve received a number of R&D grants from Innovate UK, Department for Transport and Horizons 2020. We’re currently a team of 12 across Commercial, Product, Engineering (including 4. sub-teams cloud software, machine learning, automotive software and electronics). **What you’ll be doing:** ------------------------- Part of the Hardware team, you will work on designing, developing and testing new electronic components and integrating them into various vehicle architectures to allow Co-Pilot to autonomously and efficiently control vehicles. * Hands-on prototyping circuits/boards, integrations with the vehicle network including CAN, LIN & J1939 * Support hardware designs for production; including occasional assembly and build * Debug and resolve hardware issues and perform validation and verification for our custom integrations * Support component level testing of hardware, mechanical and software on bench and system level testing in-vehicle * Cross-functional collaboration with software, mechanical, and integration engineering teams * Driving continued improvement of hardware designs for new features and future products from ground floor **What you must have 80%+ of:** ------------------------------- * BS or MS in electrical engineering, computer engineering, physics or equivalent with focus on electronics and/or automotive * 2-3 years of professional work experience ideally within automotive or consumer electronics * Strong electronic circuit design skills across both analogue and digital * Proficient with schematic capture and PCB layout tools and systems (KiCad, Alitum, Fusion360) * Experience in board and system-level testing and characterization * Delivering electronic circuit designs with Design for Cost and Manufacturing understanding * Experience or basic understanding of automotive systems; mechanical integrations (ADAS or autonomous system experience preferred) **Bonus points!** ----------------- * Experience with STM32-family microprocessors * Experience with the product development life cycle from inception to production * Strong software engineering skills ideally in C and Python * Experience with automotive tools (or equivalent) e.g. Vector (CANoe, CANalyser), PEAK * Familiarity with CAN, J1939; ISO26262 and other automotive safety standards * Familiar with CAD design tools and 3D printing * 5+ years of professional work experience Don’t meet all of the role requirements?
