### Job description Galison Publishing is looking for a Designer to work with our Custom Business team. Successful candidates will possess a curious mind and will enjoy the development of custom client proposals and products that are distinctive and appropriate to business goals. They will have exceptional interpersonal, communication and relationship management skills to support working with and communicating across multiple departments. We are looking for an organized self-starter with a trained eye for visual and graphic design who will comfortably navigate and adapt to project needs in a fast-paced cross-functional product design environment. Key Duties *Initiate product design pitches for Custom Galison and Mudpuppy projects, partnering with Custom Sales manager, to ensure that proposals are appropriate to business goals. *Design solutions for Custom and Custom to Line Galison and Mudpuppy projects, utilizing commissioned/licensed artwork. *Initiate and art direct commissions for projects as needed. *Manage the process from art acquisitions and commissions to design and pre-press file preparation, proof/prototype reviews through client approval. Collaborate with Custom Sales Manager and production team through the entire product design lifecycle. *Develop and maintain an understanding of the Galison and Mudpuppy product lines and new formats. *With the Creative Director and Custom Sales Manager, anticipate the need for additional design development resources to meet the goals of individual projects and the Custom business. *This position reports to the Creative Director, partners with the Custom Sales Manager and has accountability with the Executive Director of Sales to ensure that business objectives, timelines and budget goals are achieved. *Other assignments as requested by Creative Director, Custom Sales Manager, Sales and Marketing leaders. Requirements *Positive, collaborative attitude and self-motivated, with the ability to work both independently and within a team environment *Minimum of 4 years of graphic design experience within an in-house design department or design studio, preferably with some experience in designing paper and gift products *A love of design reflected within strong typographic, color and compositional skills *Ability to balance high aesthetic values with merchandising goals. *Minimum of 1 year of experience with editorial acquisitions, commissions and art direction. *Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
