THE ROLE As a member of the Strategy Design (SD) team, the Design Research Lead will collaborate closely with all design disciplines in the studio (Industrial Design, Experience Design, and Product Development Engineering) to ground new systems, products, and experiences in service of real human needs. We are looking for a design researcher with a resourceful and creative take on research. A design research lead will bring their expertise leading end-to-end research lifecycles in a wide range of categories for clients large and small. Your passion, curiosity, and rigor for understanding and observation uncover new sources of information and opportunities for hybrid learnings. In addition, your ability to empathize with and relate to individuals from all walks of life lends itself to formulating researchable inquiries and experiences and translating insights and ideas for impact across audiences and disciplines. Your broad experience with diverse research methodologies makes you comfortable exploring and experimenting with new, possibly unconventional tools and methods based on challenges, goals, and available resources. As an advocate for your craft, you'll support the development of design research studio-wide, mentoring others in best practices, and keeping teams informed with meaningful trends and insights. REQUIRED 4-8 years of end-to-end qualitative research experience, designing, planning, conducting, and synthesizing research, ideally within a design or innovation environment. Experience with surveys and quantitative analysis is a plus. Degree in Psychology, Anthropology, Sociology, Design, or related experience. Enthusiasm for working on diverse projects ranging in timing, scope, medium, and category. Produce deliverables that enhance understanding of and ability to design for user needs. Amplify the relevance and influence of research findings through storytelling, presentation, video, workshops, and experiences. Partner with other disciplines to develop physical and digital, low and high-fidelity stimuli to aid research. PROJECT SKILLS Collaborate closely with clients and studio leadership to identify research needs and approaches. Manage projects and resources with keen attention to detail and strong organizational and planning skills. Remain comfortable and creative amidst ambiguity, under pressure, and against tight deadlines. Self-directed towards excellent work outcomes, proactive with a strong ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities. Exceptional written and verbal communication and presentation and remote and in-person facilitation. A BIT ABOUT YOU If you feel this role is meant for you, please send us a portfolio that shows your capability as a thinker and designer. Show us what inspires and drives you. Show us what you are good at and what you like best.
