This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to join our rocketship at an inflection point! * We’re a tight-knit, intense team, where you'll learn a ton and be trusted with extreme ownership. * Help small underdog business owners thrive and compete against large corporations. ✅ What You’ll Do ---------------- We are looking for a Head of Engineering to lead/scale our engineering team, set a fast shipping pace, make foundational technical decisions, help write code and debug, and most importantly recruit engineers who are amongst the best in the industry. We believe engineering leaders need to be technically excellent and able to zoom in and zoom out as needed – from being hands-on with writing great core code to making key architecture and people decisions. This is a unique opportunity to shape a foundational infrastructure and the engineering team that will empower businesses to grow. Your roles would include: * You will lead and grow our engineering team. * Recruit a team of engineers who are amongst the best in the industry, from outreach to closing. * Empower the engineering team to achieve a high level of technical productivity and fast shipping pace. * You will need to make architectural trade-offs applying synchronous and asynchronous design patterns and deliver the systems with speediness and quality. * Contribute to the codebase as a hands-on engineer. * You will be responsible for designing and implementing scalable, distributed, high-volume applications that should be reliable 24x7. * Work closely with customers and other teams (eg.: Customer Success, Finance) to promptly translate their requirements and pain points into solutions. 📈 Requirements -------------- * Willing to work in person at our San Francisco office. * 8-10+ years of experience with a recent history of setting direction for a team as a senior technical leader. * BS/MS/PhD in computer science or related engineering fields or equivalent experience. * Ability to decompose complex distributed systems and quickly pinpoint issues. * Expert knowledge of computer science, with strong competencies in data structures, algorithms, and software design. * Experience with bringing scalable, foundational software to production at large scale. * Experience architecting, developing, and testing backend code end-to-end * In-depth knowledge of AWS services. * Experience working with relational databases such as Postgres, MySQL and NoSQL databases such as DynamoDB, Cassandra, etc. * Ability to write clean, maintainable and testable code using modern server platforms such as Node.js, GoLang, Python. * Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills. * Ability to provide in-depth evaluation of multiple technical directions and determine tradeoffs of each. * Experience managing engineering teams with a strong record of shipping. * Strong recruiting skills, with a track record of hiring new team members who are extremely effective over the long term. * Enough frontend engineering experience (eg.: React, HTML, CSS) to help make key architectural decisions and manage a frontend team. * Being proactive and a fast-learner (Slope! ⚡). 🚀 Bonus points -------------- * Entrepreneurial mindset (we encourage all employees to be future founders and this can be a great stepping stone towards that). * Customer-centric and passionate about helping small businesses grow. * Experience at a high-growth, fast-paced startup, especially in fintech.
