General Purpose: As part of Pathology Informatics group develop modern web-based state-of-the-art software for a range of applications that support clinical, educational, and research missions of Anatomic Pathology. Applications span a wide range of modern technologies including DNA sequencing, Digital Pathology, systems interoperability (HL7, FHIR), and text indexing and search technology. The position involves writing software and supporting affiliated systems and projects. Develops programs or systems of small to moderate size and complexity. Modifies existing systems at all levels of difficulty. Provides informational input into decisions concerning the development and delivery of applications, programs and systems. Defines and analyzes requirements to meet the expectations of stakeholders and intended end user needs, scheduled timeline, and budgetary targets. Analyzes, defines and designs new systems and applications. Responsible for the creation, definition, communication, and management of project plans which includes architectural design, technology selection and methodologies to apply. Troubleshoots problems and provide ongoing maintenance and support for applications and systems. Prepares documentation, user manuals and develops formal proposals for new systems and modifications to existing systems. Mentors technical staff and provide training for end users. Contributes in the development of policies or modifications to exiting policies. Applies and keeps current with existing and emerging technologies and methodologies. Provides ongoing input to the establishment of programming standards, procedures, and methodologies. May perform other duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree in a related field and six years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Qualifications: * Strong programming experience with Java, web-based development, and web technologies in general. * Strong knowledge of software such as JavaScript, HTML, or CSS. * Ability to manage projects and communicate effectively with both technical and functional team members. Experience with full system software lifecycles for multiple concurrent projects, while also directly contributing to the coding effort. * Strong experience with relational and NoSQL databases. * Preferred Education and Experience: Experience with Sybase, MySQL, MongoDb, and Elasticsearch. Web application development with GWT. Familiarity with Apache Tomcat as deployment platform. Working knowledge of MongoDb or Elasticsearch systems. Experience in clinical environment with medical or bio-medical informatics applications. Background in Digital Pathology, Image Processing, Machine Learning, Bioinformatics.
